En study second book VEGETARIAN by Han Kang

나는 한강 작가의 팬으로 집에 작가의 책이 꽤 있다. 처음 읽은 것은 2007년 이었다. 읽으면서 내내 어떻게 이런 문장을 쓸 수 있는지, 이런 내용을 전개할 수 있는지 감탄했었다. 당시 현정언니와 대화하면서 동아시안이 노벨문학상을 탄다면 한강이 가장 가능성 있지 않을까 얘기하던게 생각난다. 그리고 2024년 우리의 바램이 이루어졌다..! 한강 노벨문학상 수상!

당시 너무 너무 신났던게 기억난다.

이제 한강 작가의 <채식주의자>를 영문 번역 소설을 읽으면서 두번째 영어 스터디를 시작한다.  

내가 영문 소설 한 단락 읽기-> 지원이가 한 단락 읽기로 번갈아 가면서 읽을 것이고 30-40분간 진행하기로 했다.  

이번에는 반년정도 걸릴려나? 어쩃든 내가 한강 작가의 팬인 것과는 별개로 공부는 공부인지라 머리 아프지만, 재밌다!

わたしは韓江（ハン・ガン）作家のファンで、家には彼女の本がかなりある。最初に読んだのは2007年だった。読みながらずっと、「どうしてこんな文章が書けるんだろう」「どうやってこんな展開を思いつくんだろう」と感嘆していた。当時、ヒョンジョンおねえさんと話しながら、「もし東アジアの作家がノーベル文学賞を取るとしたら、韓江がいちばん可能性が高いんじゃないかな」と話していたのを思い出す。そして2024年、わたしたちの願いがついに叶った…！ 韓江のノーベル文学賞受賞！

そのとき、わたしは本当に本当に興奮していたのを覚えている。

そして今、韓江作家の『菜食主義者』の英語版を読みながら、2回目の英語スタディを始めることにした。

わたしが英語版の小説を1段落読み、それからジウォニが1段落読む、というふうに交代しながら読む予定で、30〜40分ほど進めることにした。

今回は半年くらいかかるかな？ とにかく、韓江作家のファンであることとは別に、勉強はやっぱり勉強だから頭は痛いけれど、楽しい！

I’m a fan of the writer Han Kang, and I have quite a few of her books at home. The first one I read was back in 2007. While reading it, I kept thinking, “How can someone write sentences like this?” and “How does she create such developments?” I remember talking with my older friend Hyun-jung at the time, saying, “If an East Asian writer were ever to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, wouldn’t Han Kang be the most likely?”

And in 2024, our wish finally came true…! Han Kang won the Nobel Prize in Literature!

I still remember how unbelievably excited I was.

And now, I’m starting my second English study session by reading the English translation of The Vegetarian.

We decided to take turns reading—I’ll read one paragraph, then Jiwon will read one paragraph—and continue for about 30 to 40 minutes.

Maybe this time it’ll take about half a year? In any case, even though my love for Han Kang is one thing and studying is another (which definitely makes my head hurt), it’s still fun!
